CBD.
Chances are you’ve heard of CBD Oil or maybe even tried it yourself. It’s becoming a go-to supplement for many and its popularity has soared everywhere, including the CrossFit training community. The 2018 Turkey Challenge was even sponsored by a CBD company this year who have a roster of known CrossFit athletes representing their products.
Praised for a variety of beneficial properties, CBD oil allows the body’s endocannabinoid system (ECS) receptors to be stimulated. The ECS is responsible for things including sleep quality, relaxation/anti-anxiety, anti-inflammatory response, and cognitive function. All good things for everyday life, and especially for those who train the way we do. Feel free to use the Google machine to check out all of the studies that have been and are currently being performed on CBD oil. It’s pretty amazing what they’re learning and how it’s being used.
After much consideration, we’ve decided to stock UltraCell CDB Oil at the gym for our members. The cost is $120 for a bottle which is a 30 day supply. Several Evolve folks are currently using UltraCell, as am I. Here’s why: I’m not a good sleeper. It’s hard for me to get to sleep and hard for me to stay asleep. With my regular job sleep can be sporadic, and with the understanding of all of the negative impacts of sleep depravation, I knew I needed to do some things to improve the quality of the sleep I was getting and I found CBD to be helpful. The anti-inflammatory benefits are also a plus as we know that many disease processes are driven by systemic inflammation. That inflammation also makes my knees and shoulders hurt, so as a CrossFitter if I can mitigate that a little bit it’s also a win!
After trying a few different brands, I settled on UltraCell for 2 reasons. First, it worked better than other brands for me. The fact that it is water soluble allows for more efficient uptake in the body, which was readily apparent after a few nights of use. Second, due to my job requirements I can not have any THC in my system. Most brands perform a test on a single batch to confirm zero THC. UltraCell tests every batch, which though expensive, is more rigorous and makes me feel better that I know exactly what I am taking.
As with anything you put in your body, it’s important for you to research it and understand exactly what it is and what it does. There’s plenty of information out there on CBD. Have a look and consider if it might help you. If you think it might, we got you covered. See a coach and they will get you set up!
