Why?
Fear and Fitness.
I posted the above pic on my personal IG this weekend and it was suggested that it would be a good post so here it is. As this made the rounds it turns out that this originally came from Reader’s Digest, a very popular piece of print media, and the list provided above was incomplete. The full list also included hot yoga, spin class, burpees, and sprints among others. They have since changed it to exercises to “modify” but the damage has been done.
If you’re reading this because you’re on the CrossFit Evolve website, then chances are pretty good that you already know this is complete bullshit. The problem is that the majority of our country who hasn’t been lucky enough to set foot into a CrossFit affiliate and have their lives changed forever don’t know any better. They see this on the TV, or read it on Reader’s Digest’s website, and they believe it because they don’t know. And they want to believe it, because it’s easy. It’s easy to have this a justification for not training, for not getting off the couch and moving, for not walking into a CrossFit gym and starting from scratch to build a level of fitness that allows them to go out in life and do all the things we humans were built to do. It’s easy to believe the bullshit. It’s really sad that at a time when so much of our population is overweight and suffering from preventable lifestyle-induced disease that recommendations continue to come out based on fear and a lack of understanding.
So what do we do? CrossFit Health is out there spreading the message that CrossFit Affiliates are a haven of health and fitness. You know first hand that we have the building blocks to improve fitness, to decrease lifestyle-induced disease, and to improve overall wellness. It’s undeniable. Tell the people you care about, share what you’ve learned and what you know, drag them into Evolve or point them to a CrossFit affiliate near them, and help them.
We believe that we can make a difference in people’s lives. We’ve been doing it for almost 9 years and we’ve seen it every day. It’s time for us to stand together and battle the bullshit.
