Why Run?

We get a lot of comments on running days! And sometimes those comments come the day after because, well, it’s not uncommon for some of you to skip the all-running WODs. Is that you? The coaches of CrossFit Evolve can tell you all day why running is important, but you always hear from us. So let’s hear from someone else!

Many of you have heard of Chris Henshaw, endurance coach for CrossFit athletes like Mat Fraser, Camile Leblanc-Bazinet, and Rich Froning (you’ve heard of them, yes?). Here is his take on why training endurace is important. It’s also why those names above, along with many others, use Hinshaw as part of their CrossFit Training. Here’s what he had to say in an interview with The Athlete Daily:

“The No. 1 thing is CrossFitters think running is about running. No, running is about developing and improving overall work capacity,” Hinshaw said. “You are supporting your bodyweight, the amount of precision you are controlling and your body’s ability to buffer or clear your lactate.”

So, why is that important?

“When that lactate hits your bloodstream it has no idea where it came from, its just trying to get rid of it,” Hinshaw said. “As a a system your body becomes much more efficient at removing that lactate the same as when you’re doing pull-ups in a workout or when you’re running.”

Your body also becomes better at lifting. Everyone needs a to work endurance, whether you’re a CrossFitter, Powerlifter or Olympic lifter.

This is just a little piece for you to chew on, but if you want more follow the link above. Or just come in and run a bunch of 400s today. Trust us, it’s good for you!
