JoLynn wiping down her bar after a toes-to-bar workout. That’s a good friend!
A Winter Time P.S.A.
Tis the holiday season which means it’s also the season for colds, runny noses, coughs, sneezes, chills, and a bunch of other stuff that sucks when you get it. The gym can be a place where you pick some of that nastiness up. So what can you do to try and keep that from happening. Here’s a couple of tips to keep you healthy through the winter:
Wipe down you stuff: Pull-up bars, barbells, kettlebells, jump rope handles, rowers. You get the idea. There are a lot of thing that have your hands on them during workouts. Grab the wipes and take care of them when you’re done. The pull-up bars are the most neglected surface in the gym post WOD. Make sure you get those after you’ve been swinging on them.
Sleep: When you’re tired you’re more prone to getting sick. This is a busy time of year. Spend some extra effort to get in enough shut-eye. Make a goal and try to meet it, like in bed by 10 pm with no devices. Stick to the plan and you might get in an extra hour than normal.
Nutrition: This time of year is when most people’s nutrition goes out the window. Being busy, stress, and endless treats everywhere you look can throw you off your game. Most of us aren’t going to completely avoid the delicious desert or after dinner cocktail, but that doesn’t mean go crazy either. Keep things in balance and maintain your good nutritional habits you’ve been working on. The better you fuel your body, the better it will be able to stay sniffle-free.
Stress Management: When we get beat down mentally, it’s not uncommon for us to get sick. Manage the holiday season. Find time to do what makes you happy. And what reduces stress. Workout. Go for a run. Read a book. Whatever it is, make it a daily goal to carve out a chunk of time for you. Keep your mind healthy and your body will follow.
We hope keeping these things in mind will help keep you going through the holiday season and the rest of the winter!
