Charlie ain’t scared of the pull-ups!
Dave D shared this with me, and to say it’s powerful is an understatement. Here’s a bit of what Dave wrote to me:
I and most of my brothers wrestled in high school. We always joke about how wrestlers are cut from a different bolt of cloth.
I have a poster of Dan Gable in my home gym and can remember the day when he lost his first, and only match. In this clip, Gable’s belief about how matches are decided is outlined. Those with the best technique usually win in the first period, if it makes it to the second period, those with the best conditioning win in the second period, and most importantly, if it makes it to the third two minute period, those with the most heart will usually win.
I think that philosophy translates well into Crossfit – instead of three periods, however, I see it breaking down into phases – the beginning, the “suck”, and the completion. I wonder how many of us have truly have the “heart” to leave it all on the floor every single time??
I know the mental side of the CrossFit sport is the most challenging.
Well put Dave! I think we all struggle with that part of it. Take a look at this video and see if you feel inspired. I know I do!
