As probably you’ve experienced yourselves as someone who works out at a box, when folks I meet find out I coach at a CrossFit gym, they tend to ask lots of questions. I love that because I get to talk about something I’m passionate about. Of course, I try to temper it because I don’t want to come off as a used car salesman-type trying to convince everyone I meet to come into the box…..though I really do want everyone I meet to come in!! Usually we get to chat for a little while about working out, and they will then share their experiences which is cool. Then something happens. Not always, but often times it’s shared that they don’t really workout anymore, things have gotten busy and there’s not enough time. We spoke about that here, so no need to rehash our feelings about having 112 waking hours in a week so finding 3 or 4 of those for catching a workout should’t be too hard.
It’s a matter of prioritizing what you’re after, and it makes me think of you. You are some of the busiest people I know. The other day one of our folks came in for an afternoon WOD that was an unusual time for him. When I asked him what brought him at this time, it turns out he cut out of work early to catch his daily workout before heading back in for a late afternoon conference call. How easy would it have been for him to just take a rest day? Really easy. But he doesn’t do easy. Neither do you. This quote from Greg Glassman was on the interweb the other day:
“Successful people pursue hard things. Unsuccessful people avoid them.”
The stuff we do is hard. Yet you pursue it daily with intensity and usually a smile, at least once it’s over. The two pictures above represent this. The first picture is the 6am crew. The morning after the Evolve Christmas Party. Where there were drinks. The WOD was row a 5k. These guys rolled out of bed after a late night, came to the gym before the sun was up, and rowed an effin 5k. Who does that? The second picture is of Aaron. This was a picture of him at the 7pm open gym getting in his oly work. In between sets he would go to the side and study for the test he had the next morning. Are you kidding me? And we know that this isn’t only how you approach the gym, but how you approach everything that you do. Successful people pursue hard things.
The point of this post is to tell you that we admire you guys more than you know. You are the one-percenters. The dedication you show is amazing, and it’s going to help give you whatever it is you’re after….health, wellness, fitness, happiness, success…whatever. Keep with it, even during this busy holiday season. And at your next Christmas party when someone tells you they don’t have time to workout, smile and think to yourself what you had to do to get in your WODs this week!
What a motivational pic of both the 6am-ers and of Aaron, that is super cool! Yet again exactly what we needed to read, thank you. So many amazing folks at Evolve, and I am so stinkin proud to be able to know y’all & work out with y’all!!!
