The mountain bike crew from Sunday!
One of the things about any general physical preparedness (GPP) program, which CrossFit is, is that the ultimate goal is preparing your for what you might find yourself doing outside of the gym. It could be playing soccer, running a 5k, hiking a 14er, going skiing or snowboarding, doing your job, or anything that requires a fitness base to be able to accomplish your endeavor.
For me personally, it’s much easier to go catch a WOD than it is to get out there and put my fitness to use. It’s convenient. The gym is close, I’m there most every day anyway, and you get a great workout in a relatively short amount of time. It’s awesome. But that convenience can also keep me from doing the things I love to do. On Sunday those fellas above all got together and drove up to Wyoming for some mountain biking. The trails were fantastic, the weather was perfect, and the company was great. It took just one of those guys in that picture…Adam…to stoke the fire and that was it, it happened.
The days are getting shorter, the weather cooler. Get out there and put your fitness to use. Choose something that you’ve always wanted to do, write it down, share it with someone to hold yourself accountable, and get out there and do it. Put all of the ridiculously hard work you’ve been doing in the gym to the test outside of the gym. It’s fun, just ask any of the guys in the picture above!
