That’s a picture of Scott. He used to be a big fan of the text under the photos on the old site and wanted to know where they went. He’s not the only one who’s mentioned they missed them. So now they’re back.
You may have noticed a sweet new poster of the oly lifts starring Diane Fu. We’re big fans of hers. If you do the instagram thing it would be worth your while to follow her. She puts out some really cool oly stuff. This week I’ve cued a couple of folks on keeping their eyes up during their lifts, as well as other movements like muscle-ups. We’ve even gone as far as to put targets on the walls in front of the platforms to remind you to keep your eyes up. Diane Fu posted this little tidbit this week. Timely considering the lifting today. Keep em up!
The eyes help set the proprioception for the rest of the body. In other words, wherever you look, your body will tend to motion in that direction. This is largely a reason why weightlifters look directly ahead to the horizon when lifting. I actually like having athletes look higher than the horizon level to help rotate the body more upright in the receiving position. Want to give this a shot yourself? The next time you snatch/clean, take your first lift keeping your eyes down at the floor, then the next lift with your eyes at the horizon and finally one looking (much) higher than the horizon. How did each one feel?
