What?! Josh on the podium with hardware!!
On Sunday, myself, Marcio, and Josh competed in the Front Range CrossFit Weightlifing Meet. It was the first oly meet for all 3 of us. I couldn't be prouder of those 2 guys, for how hard they trained, how they dialed in their diet (both cut weight to drop a weight class while I ate my ass off), and how they competed. They're awesome!
I can't speak for those guys, but I wanted to do this for a couple of reasons. First…you've heard me talk about it before…having a date circled on the calander will do a lot for you. It will make you dial in your nutrition, it will focus your training, and it will change some of the day-to-day priorities (sleep versus beer for example). This event did just that. I got things in order. The 3 of us would get together and lift most open gym days and some other off-times, and it paid off. We got stronger and we got better. And it was a blast!
The other reason I did it is to step outside of my comfort zone. I think it's healthy to put yourself in those situations. You learn a lot about yourself. Several folks asked what the meet was like. I can tell you it wasn't like a CF comp. No music, and no group to get lost in. Just you, your tight-ass singlet, and a bar on a platform. In front of you are 3 judges watching for any deviation in the lift, ready to white light you (good) or red light you (bad). Behind them is a bunch of folks you don't know, and some you do, watching you. Did I mention the singlet? Stepping outside the comfort zone? Check.
At the end of it, we all did really well but in true Evolve fashion, we all know we could have done better. And we were all in concensus that that would be the first oly meet for us, but not the last. Which is why I was so happy to run into Robby, who owns Alpine CrossFit. He told me that they're hosting their own oly meet on December 15th. Here's your chance, sign up now, start working on your lifts, and see what you can do! This will be a more casual event, it is NOT USAW sanctioned, and no singlet is required (though you should wear one to get the true experience!!!). Who's in?

Just in time for the Holidays….Alpine CrossFit is hosting a weightlifting meet!
As CrossFitters, many of us have dabbled in Olympic weightlifting but have never truly competed in the sport. Now you can! This event will provide a more casual atmosphere for everyone to Snatch and Clean & Jerk while getting a good feel for a true weightlifting meet. We will have judges, stage, weight changers, warm-up room, and all the butterflys that come with competing. We plan on having experienced seasoned Oly athletes as well as many first timers. We will provide a fun time for everyone and hope to see a lot of PR’s!
Quick notes for this event:
– This is NOT a USAW sanctioned event
– NO SINGLETS are required. However, your elbows and knees must be visible to the judges.
– Weight belts are allowed but may not exceed 4″ wide
– We will have weight classes for men and women which will be determined on the day of competition to keep the numbers even. We will most likely have three classes each for Men and Women but the number of classes also depends on enrollment.
