On Friday I posted about the latest "red meat will definately kill ya" study. No need to cover what the authors of the study said, you can go back and check it out if you're interested. What is cool is that over the last week, many folks who we consider authorities on the subject of nutrition have weighed in with not only their opinions on the study itself, but with more general analysis of how many studies find an association between one thing and another (red meat and premature death) and without any science at all, the results are made public in a way that indicates that one thing causes the other (red meat causes premature death).
Gary Taubes (author if Good Calories, Bad Calories and Why We Get Fat) has posted a great write-up titled Science, Pseudoscience, Nutritional Epidemiology,and Meat where he gets into the issues with observational studies in depth. It's long, but you may find it interesting.
