It feels like winter outside! With the good of winter comes the bad: runny noses, coughs, sneezes, sore throats, and things like that. The box is the perfect place to spread some of these nasties. Not only does it just plain suck to be sick, it messes up your training and all the other things that go along with it: our nutrition, rest, recovery, and mental well being.

If we all take some steps, we can greatly reduce the chance of spreading things around. Check out these preventative steps from the Centers for Disease Control:

Cover your nose and mouth with a tissue when you cough or sneeze. Throw the tissue in the trash after you use it.

Wash your hands often with soap and water. If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol based hand rub.

Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth. Germs spread this way.

Try to avoid close contact with sick people.

If you are sick with flu–like illness, CDC recommends that you stay home for at least 24 hours after your fever is gone except to get medical care or for other necessities. (Your fever should be gone without the use of a fever-reducing medicine.)

While sick, limit contact with others as much as possible to keep from infecting them.

If the CDC folks who wrote those recommendations CrossFitted, they would also recommend wiping down your equipment with the bleach wipes after you're done! For those of us who have kids in daycare or school, you know all too well how quickly things spread from kid to kid. Well our kid area at the gym is no different. If the kiddos are sick, leave 'em at home. So with this winter season, take care of yourselves and your Evolve friends! This concludes our public service announcement.
