Have you been watching the Games on ESPN2? I know you have because we've all been talking about how awesome it is! Have you been hearing from friends and family who know you do CrossFit, but really didn't know what you were talking about when you said "increasing work capacity across broad time and modal domains", then they saw the Games on TV and were like holy sh*t, that's what you do? I have and it's been pretty cool.

Below is a commercial that they aired as part of the Games on ESPN2. I've been thinking about if this exposure will make more people want to try CrossFit, or will the WODs that they showcase being performed by the fittest-of-fit make people think that it's not feasible for everyone else. What do you think?

  1. My opinion…..its a fitness system….CrossFit Inc likes to make fun of the Globo Gym yet it partners with Reebok and of the first Cro$$Fit Globo Gyms is created in Reebok One(implying there will be more). Yes it is cool that these amazing athletes are getting noticed but the biggest winner in all this is Glassman as affiliation fees go up and more money rolls in. Maybe now Inc can give back to the community it preaches to Create. Just my opinion.

  2. You don’t truly understand how hard crossfit is until you do it. How hard is it to do 15 repos of a 225 deadlift? If you’ve never really deadlifted much you have no idea and I think a lot of people overestimate what they think they can do.
Given that, I think you may see more people try crossfit (those that aren’t turned off by the price as most my friends at other boxes pay 150+) and some will stick with it and love it. Others will see people passed out on the floor or throwing up outside and think “these people are nuts”. I think it takes a special breed of crazy to do it day in and day out.

  3. Of course that was inocnent. Everyone knows that they serve beer at BJ’s. And BJ’s is a fine dinning establishment. Jeez, Laurie! I just didn’t want one of my top athletes engaging in over indulgences. She’s the one that mentioned the bar.
