After the sectionals last year my good friend and often times coach Kevin from CrossFit Eaton suggested I take an ice bath for my ridiculously sore legs. I took his advice. It was my one and only ice bath. I am scarred. My wife is scarred. My kids won't let me put ice in their drinks anymore. It sucked. But after watching this video, I realized I have been doing it all wrong. I can't wait to try it again.

  1. I agree that it does make a world of difference, but I looked a lot like the guy on the video while I tried to make myself stay in the water. I wasn’t wearing Flash underwear or a bandana though. Maybe I’ll try that next time.

  2. I agree with my man Lonnie. It sucks bad! I disagree with Jill and Jeff. Jill talked me into doing one of these torture sessions after one on my training runs for the Colorado. Beer helped me get through the pain of the water (and I didn’t even use ice, just cold water) and my whole body was locked up for hours after. I couldn’t stand, it hurt to walk and I shivered through the night like I had the flu.
Best time ever!!!!!!!!! Thanks again for the suggestion Jill.

  3. I tried it once and made it in up to my ankle for about 30 seconds, then drained the tub and took a hot shower. Never again.

  4. I love ice baths for recovering from those deathly WODs that keep me from sleeping.
The worst part is the first 30 seconds, just breathe, you won’t die. It helps to have someone talk you through it. Set a timer for 20 minutes, read a magazine and relax.
I highly recommend wearing underwear and having something hot to drink and warm clothes ready when you get out.
