We always love to share your stories. Today here's one from Monica!

My CrossFit Story!

I was introduced to the CrossFit Evolve family by my awesome cousin Joel.  I never heard of CrossFit before but I saw some pictures Joel had posted on facebook.  Everyone was smiling, sort of, doing crazy things like flipping huge tires and jumping over stuff.   Some of the captions said something about a WOD,  what the heck is that?  Little did I know that WOD would become one of my favorite words. (I consider it a word).  Joel and Charlotte explained to me what CrossFit was all about and how much they enjoyed it.  I decided to give it a try and I joined in October.  I was very nervous to start and only wanted to go to the classes that Joel and Charlotte were attending, that changed very quickly. Everyone was so friendly and welcomed me with open arms.  During my 101, I felt like a doofus because I had no idea what I was doing.  When I started, one of the first WODs was a bunch of running followed by a million supermans and a ton of situps.  I was ok with the running, not so much with the others.  I felt like I was going to die! I could barley do the situps and I'm sure that I looked like a fish flopping around doing the supermans.  I finished and felt awful!  A few days later the wod was a 400m lunge walk, I only did 200m.  I was so sore and I had never felt that horrible before.  A snail could move faster than me for about three days.  It was hard for me to literally go back for more, but I was already hooked!  Although I felt terrible, I also felt awesome that I completed the WODs.

Three weeks into joining, the WOD was a 5k run, and no one showed up, except for Kelley, but she was recovering from her marathon.  I had to run by myself and I was scared that I was going to get lost.  Jon told me that the turn around point is a big green electrical box and that I would know it when I saw it. So I'm running and running and running and I see an electrical box, but it wasn't HUGE, so I kept going.  I made it all the way to Drake and decided that it was time to go back,  I think I ran close to one mile  longer.  I felt great though, just in the few weeks I had been there, I was able to run without stopping and it was a nice feeling.  3 1/2 months into CrossFit, I completed my first as RX WOD! I was so excited and felt amazing.  Accomplishing that has kept me motivated to keep trying  RX weights.  Just a few days ago, during Barbara, I  surprised myself and did all 150 push ups the real way!  Now I am training for a half marathon in April, I never would have decided to do it before.

All if you athletes are amazing! Everyone is so kind and I have made lots of friends.  I don't think that I could have made it through some of the WODs without your encouragement, so thank you!  I love the comradery in the box.  Everyone has such a positive attitude and its contagious.  I work nights and go straight to CrossFit.  It is so nice to walk in and see smiling faces after a very long, stressful night at work.  It makes my entire day 100 million times better.   Thank you to the wonderful coaches who have supported me and who are constantly pushing me to kick some butt!

I was always telling my mom, Ceci about how awesome CrossFit is and she decided to join herself!  I am so proud of her and I love working out with her!

Since joining the family, I have lost 15 lbs and a total of 7.5" off my body.  I feel great and I have more energy.  What started as something to do to get into shape has turned into a lifestyle.  CrossFit Evolve was exactly what I needed in my life and I will forever be a CrossFit athlete!  I am so thankful that Joel introduced me, thank you!! I now have a sense of accomplishment and my life is more happy than it was before joining.  I am now able to  do things that I never thought possible.  I have more coincidence in myself than I ever did before and I feel great!

Joel asked me a few weeks ago, "So is CrossFit what you expected?"  I replied, "It's more than I expected!"  I absolutely love the feeling CrossFit gives me everyday!
